Rep. Reschenthaler’s statement on Judiciary Democrats' Vote to hold AG Barr in Contempt
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement after House Judiciary Committee Democrats voted to hold Attorney General Barr in contempt for upholding the law:
"This partisan vote to hold the Attorney General in contempt is nothing more than an attempt to publicly shame and discredit Mr. Barr for political purposes. To say that I'm disappointed in the direction of this committee is an understatement. I was sent here to get things done, and I feel like my colleagues across the aisle have been chasing a ghost for the last two years.
"During that time, we've suffered from an opioid pandemic. I say pandemic because it's everywhere in the United States, and it's killing thousands of individuals. We have real problems to address in our country, such as immigration. By moving to a merit-based system, we could bring our country into step with the rest of the industrialized world.
"I have two bipartisan bills that I'm introducing with my Democratic colleagues that could really make a difference (H.R. 2368 and H.R. 2348). But instead, we've been engaging in political theater, bringing in props, and just chasing this ghost for the last two years.
"We've already pointed out that Attorney General Barr has been incredibly transparent and the Department of Justice has been more than accommodating, but Chairman Nadler continues to move at an unprecedented speed toward the Democrats' true goal: impeaching President Trump.
"So again, to say that I'm disappointed in the direction of this committee is an understatement, especially when we have real work that we can be focused on."
