Reschenthaler, Colleagues Oppose President Biden’s Nomination of Adeel Abdullah Mangi to Third Circuit Court of Appeals

Nominee tied to radical, antisemitic law school organization

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) led nine colleagues in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey GOP Congressional Delegations requesting President Biden withdraw his nomination of Adeel Abdullah Mangi to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He was joined by Reps. Dan Meuser, Mike Kelly, John Joyce, M.D., Glenn “GT” Thompson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Chris Smith, Scott Perry, Jeff Van Drew, and Tom Kean, Jr., representing constituents within the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

From 2019 to 2023, Mangi served as a member of the Board of Advisors for the Center for Security, Race, and Rights at Rutgers Law School (the Center), which has a deep history of amplifying antisemitic speech, terrorist propaganda, and anti-American rhetoric. Mangi donated thousands of dollars to the Center and was personally invited to serve on the Center’s board of advisors by the Center’s director, who has consistently promoted antisemitic rhetoric.

In the letter, the lawmakers wrote:

“On numerous occasions in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Mr. Mangi was given ample opportunity to denounce examples of antisemitic rhetoric espoused by the Center. He failed to do so in his written responses and oral testimony to the committee every single time. Given the rise of antisemitism across our nation, we have grave concerns regarding his nomination and impartiality. For these reasons, we ask that you withdraw his nomination to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.”

Multiple Jewish organizations have publicly opposed Mangi’s nomination. This includes a joint statement from the Zionist Organization of America, Americans Against Antisemitism, StopAntisemitism, and Students Supporting Israel, as well as a letter from the Coalition for Jewish Values, representing over 2,500 traditional, Orthodox rabbis in American public policy.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has compiled a list of the Center’s antisemitic actions and Mangi’s involvement which is viewable here.
