Reschenthaler Helps Secure Federal Shipyard Grant for Heartland Fabrication

WASHINGTON, PA – Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) is working to create good-paying jobs in southwestern Pennsylvania by recently helping a local business, Heartland Fabrication, LLC in Brownsville, PA, secure grant funding that will increase their efficiency and productivity.

Heartland Fabrication will receive $1,008,000 through the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Maritime Administration (MARAD) Small Shipyard Grants Program. Reschenthaler contacted DOT Secretary Elaine Chao to advocate for Heartland Fabrication to receive this funding.

"This grant will provide Heartland's dedicated workers the tools needed to speed up certain steel processing tasks and better serve our customers who transport goods on America's rivers every day," said Ted Stilgenbauer, President of Heartland Fabrication LLC. "We are thankful of the support from our Congressional delegation for this opportunity to improve our competitiveness and safety."

"With this funding, Heartland Fabrication will be able to triple their efficiency and maintain their role as the largest employer in the City of Brownsville and the second-largest producer of barges in the country," Reschenthaler said. "I am grateful to Secretary Chao and the Trump Administration for their dedication to ensuring Pennsylvania businesses have the resources they need to grow and provide good-paying jobs to those throughout our community."

The MARAD Small Shipyard Grant Program distributes funds to make capital and related improvements in small shipyards, as well as provide training for workers in shipbuilding, ship repair, and associated industries. The program seeks to encourage efficiency, competitive operations, and quality ship construction, repair, and reconfiguration in small shipyards throughout the country.
