Reschenthaler Opposes Federal Power Grab of Electoral Process
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement on his vote against H.R. 1, the so-called "For the People Act:"
"H.R. 1 is the opposite of a bill ‘For the People.' Rather, it is a bill against the peoples' right to have their voices heard. This legislation is nothing more than a Democrat attempt to rig elections.
"This bill forces taxpayers to fund campaigns and candidates they don't support. It includes a 6:1 government match, meaning for every $200 contribution to a campaign, the federal government will match it with $1,200 funded by hardworking American taxpayers.
"The bill only gets worse from there. It weakens voter fraud measures, politicizes the bipartisan Federal Election Commission, and strips away freedom of speech.
"Democrats even overwhelmingly rejected a motion clearly stating that allowing illegal immigrants to vote devalues the institution of voting and diminishes the voting power of American citizens.
"Today's party line vote makes it clear: H.R. 1 helps Democrats, not our democracy."
