Reschenthaler Opposes Pelosi’s Latest Socialist Wish List

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement on his vote opposing the HEROES Act 2.0, a $2.2 trillion socialist wish list from House Democrats. The bill narrowly passed the House by a vote of 214 to 207.

"After months of refusing to seriously engage in COVID-19 relief negotiations, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats again chose politics over the American people by bringing another socialist wish list to the House floor that has no chance of becoming law," said Reschenthaler. "The HEROES Act 2.0 is nothing more than another partisan messaging exercise to appease Democrats' far-left base. It includes numerous progressive policies unrelated to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as language to defund the police and expand Obamacare.

"Meanwhile, I joined over 180 of my Republican colleagues in demanding that Speaker Pelosi end her obstructionism and bring legislation to the floor to extend the incredibly successful Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) through the end of the year. I remain committed to restoring our way of life by defeating the coronavirus, rebuilding the greatest economy in history, and renewing the American Dream for generations to come."

Specifically, the bill would:

  • Defund the police by removing $600 million from the original Heroes Act intended for the COPS Hiring program and state and local law enforcement assistance.
  • Allow illegal immigrants to receive economic impact payments and take jobs from out-of-work Americans.
  • Use taxpayer dollars to bail out mismanaged multiemployer pension plans, while failing to include any reforms to fix the problem.
  • Remove safeguards in the Paycheck Protection Program that would prevent taxpayer money from bailing out Planned Parenthood.
  • Federalize elections, with only five weeks to election day, by including stringent, impossible to achieve mandates on how states must run elections, including early voting and same-day voter registration, while prohibiting state from enforcing voter ID laws.
  • Fails to include sensible liability reforms for our front line providers.
  • Expand Obamacare through a new Special Enrollment period.
