Reschenthaler: Showing Gratitude on Thanksgiving
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) released the following statement on Thanksgiving Day:
“In 1621, the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native Americans gathered for America’s first Thanksgiving, giving thanks for their many blessings in the New World. In 1789, President George Washington’s proclamation formally recognized the holiday by acknowledging ‘a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God.’ President Lincoln followed suit in 1863, establishing Thanksgiving as a federal holiday.
Today, may this Thanksgiving Day serve as a time to reconnect with family and loved ones, recognize our nation’s sacred freedoms, and show gratitude that we all have the distinct privilege of calling the greatest nation in history – America – home.”
