Reschenthaler’s Statement on Democrats’ Proxy Voting Scheme
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement on his vote against H. Res. 965, House Democrats' partisan proxy voting legislation. H. Res. 965 would allow each member to represent up to 10 proxies on the House floor, meaning House Democrats could unilaterally pass legislation with only 20 members present in the Capitol.
"The proxy voting proposal we voted on tonight is nothing more than a power grab by my Democrat colleagues that would upend 200 years of precedent and have serious constitutional and institutional repercussions. This resolution would consolidate power into the hands of a small group of members, effectively denying tens of millions of Americans the right to have their voices heard.
"Across our nation, millions of Americans go to work every day to help their communities and defeat the COVID-19 outbreak. They expect their elected officials to do the same. House Republicans put forward a detailed plan for how the House can continue normal operations during this crisis while still protecting the health of those who work in the Capitol. We stand ready to work with Democrats to find bipartisan solutions that ensure members can fully resume their constitutional duties."
