Reschenthaler’s Statement on Opposing Final Passage of Democrats’ Payoff to Progressives
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement on his vote against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 1319, Congressional Democrats' Payoff to Progressives package. The legislation narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 220-211 and is expected to be signed into law by President Joe Biden in the coming days.
"Democrats now admit this legislation is, in the words of White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, ‘the most progressive domestic legislation in a generation' that has little to do with the ongoing pandemic. With only nine percent of the $1.9 trillion going towards defeating COVID, this bill instead prioritizes fulfilling Democrats' far left agenda. It includes wasteful and unrelated items such as hundreds of billions in unnecessary bailouts to blue states who imposed draconian shutdowns, millions in funding for Planned Parenthood, stimulus checks for illegal immigrants, and an $86 billion pension bailout. Despite the billions in wasteful spending, Democrats' bill fails to reopen our schools, with 95% of the education funding not being spent until at least 2022. Their bill forces $36 billion in Medicare cuts starting this year, further hurting senior citizens during this pandemic.
"Instead of fulfilling his promises of ‘unity' and ‘bipartisanship,' President Biden's first legislative priority is a far left progressive wish list. This liberal spending spree will not help businesses reopen or get kids safely back in school, but it will advance Democrats' interests and policy agenda at the expense of hardworking Americans."
