Reschenthaler’s Statement on President Trump’s State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement following President Donald Trump's State of the Union address:
"Tonight, President Trump showed us he has kept his promises and delivered real results for the American people. Under his leadership, Pennsylvanians are benefiting from a red-hot economy that has led to tremendous new opportunities. Since President Trump's election, 162,000 jobs have been created in the Commonwealth, unemployment hit a record low, and entrepreneurship is booming, as new business applications are up 21 percent. Further, the administration's pro-growth policies continue to fuel an energy renaissance for Pennsylvania oil, natural gas, and coal production, and industries like plastic manufacturing that go with it. The Trump Administration also continues to help working families by supporting paid family leave, expanding access to affordable childcare, and investing in workforce training initiatives.
"On the global stage, President Trump is committed to investing in our national security and restoring America's role as a world leader. After the Obama Administration sat by while China violated our trade laws, he finally brought them to the table and secured a new deal to hold the nation accountable. President Trump also negotiated the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement, which will add $68 billion in new economic growth and is a win for American farmers, businesses, workers, and families. Critically, our president faced Iranian aggression head on, and continues to focus on securing our southern border and protecting Americans from dangerous sanctuary policies.
"President Trump is committed to lowering the cost of health care for American families without taking away their choices by imposing a socialist, government-run health system. His administration has worked on proposals to lower prescription drug prices, end surprise medical billing, and deliver more flexibility and accountability, while still providing the highest standard of care in the world. I look forward to working with the president to accomplish these and other common sense solutions to fuel the great American comeback. Together, we will make America stronger and move our country forward to a bright and prosperous future."
