Project Description: This Drinking Water SRF project will install 1,440 feet of ductile iron pipe to convey potable water produced at the Indian Creek Water Treatment Plant. This project will enhance flow capacity and provide needed system redundancy. This is a valuable use of taxpayer dollars because it will enhance system capabilities by providing drinking water and fire protection to up to 225,000 residents in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties.

The authorized project includes the replacement of a fixed crest navigation dam with a gated dam at Lock and Dam 2 (Braddock), construction of two new larger lock chambers at Lock and Dam 4 (Charleroi), and removal of Lock and Dam 3 (Elizabeth). This project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because it will provide over 30 miles of unimpeded navigation on the lower Monongahela River.

This project is a valuable use of taxpayer dollars because it will provide clean drinking water to residents in Somerset County and help reduce the water loss from the Laurel Hill Creek and Jones Run and Indian Creek watersheds.
