Congressman Reschenthaler Votes to Protect Border Security Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) voted against two pieces of legislation because they deny vital funding for our nation's border security. The bills, H.R. 21 and H.J.RES. 1, do not provide the $5 billion to secure our borders, as requested by the Trump Administration.

"I believe we need to fulfill President Trump's simple request: secure the border and fund the government," stated Reschenthaler.

The need for additional investment at our nation's border has become increasingly clear in recent months, as the number of people attempting to cross the border illegally has risen to 2,000 per day.

In December, House Republicans acted responsibly to prevent a government shutdown before the conclusion of the 115th Congress. However, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats are now working to provide unnecessary funding for wasteful programs and undermine President Trump's work to protect the sanctity of life, while ignoring our country's urgent border security needs.

"This evening's vote was not about reopening the government. Rather, House Democrats chose to put politics before the needs of the American people by bringing up a bill that has no chance of being signed into law," Reschenthaler said. "Only when Speaker Pelosi works across the aisle on a deal that can pass the Senate can we reopen the government, get hardworking government employees back to work, and secure our nation's borders."
