Reschenthaler Honors Sacrifice of Pennsylvania’s 14th Quartermaster Detachment During Operation Desert Storm
WASHINGTON, PA – Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement recognizing the service and sacrifice of the 14th Quartermaster Detachment of the United States Army Reserve during Operation Desert Storm. Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Iraqi-launched SCUD missile attack, which killed 28 soldiers and wounded 99 others. The 14th Quartermaster Detachment, based in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, lost 13 soldiers and 43 others were wounded, the greatest number of casualties of any allied unit during the conflict.
"As a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, I am deeply proud to recognize the extraordinary service and sacrifice of the 14th Quartermaster Detachment of the United States Army Reserve during Operation Desert Storm," said Reschenthaler. "During my time in the Navy, I saw firsthand the courage and dedication of our deployed military men and women and the shared sacrifice of their families. These citizen soldiers from southwestern Pennsylvania bravely put their civilian lives on the line to defend against Saddam Hussein's aggression and tragically suffered the greatest number of casualties of any allied unit during the conflict. Thirty years later, the legacy of their service lives on in Pennsylvania and across our nation. We can never repay the debt we owe these servicemembers and their families, but we will never forget their sacrifice."
Congressman Reschenthaler is an original cosponsor of H. Res. 161, a bipartisan resolution commemorating the 30th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, and this morning, submitted a statement in the Congressional Record honoring the men and women of 14th Quartermaster Detachment.
