Reschenthaler Statement on 22nd Anniversary of September 11th Attacks

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) issued the following statement on the 22nd anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District:

“Today marks 22 years since the horrific attacks which tragically killed 2,977 Americans on September 11, 2001. These mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters woke up on that fateful Tuesday, encountered a level of terror few have ever experienced, and fought back.

On that morning, four planes would be hijacked, including United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into a field in Shanksville, PA, after 40 courageous souls took on their Islamic attackers. These Americans will forever be remembered for the ultimate sacrifice they made during a period when courage in the face of great evil was paramount to our nation’s future.
Over the next 20 years, more than 7,000 U.S. servicemembers would give their lives defending our homeland and its freedoms in the War on Terror.

Each American lost on 9/11, and the subsequent war has a family who wishes nothing more than to be able to embrace their loved one once again. We can never replace them nor thank them enough for their eternal sacrifice. But we can continue to honor their bravery and valor each day for our future generations.”

Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District includes Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the crash site of United Airlines Flight 93. On September 10, 2011, a permanent memorial was opened in Shanksville to commemorate Flight 93 and honor the 40 Americans who perished in the crash.
